Acquired Brain Injury and Stroke

At MindSET, individuals and families affected by Acquired
Brain Injury and Stroke are supported to improve their relationships,
their skills for daily functioning, and their quality of life. We recognize that each
individual is on their own rehabilitation journey and experiences unique
brain injury outcomes. The following services are available:
Counselling
(virtual or in-person sessions available)
Individual Counselling
Our welcoming, safe, and non-judgmental space allows clients to openly discuss their brain injury or stroke experience and its impact on their roles, relationships and daily functioning. Clients are supported to identify barriers to wellness, develop new perspectives that support healthy coping and modify or set goals to enhance their quality of life.
Caregiver/Family Member Counselling
Brain Injury and Stroke recovery impact both the individual and the people close to them. At times, caregivers may feel isolated and overwhelmed. MindSET supports caregiver well-being with a safe and welcoming approach, allowing them to explore the emotional costs of caregiving and build their resiliency.
Couple and Family Counselling
We provide a safe and non-judgmental space for couples or families to explore the many impacts of brain injury or stroke on their relationship(s). The goal of service is to help families/couples strengthen and thrive while honoring the brain injury story in their lives.
Youth experiencing ongoing brain injury outcomes are supported in a safe and friendly space to work together to understand their experience, build confidence and resiliency and learn strategies to create a hopeful future.
Youth 12+ Counselling
Return to School support
At MindSET, we offer collaboration and communication with other healthcare professionals, school-based professionals and parents/caregivers of youth 12+ to develop a return to learn plan. Options for counselling or education based on individual brain injury outcomes and accommodation needs may be recommended to augment the planning process and facilitate success.
Return to Work support
MindSET can collaborate with your employer or insurance company to coordinate return to work planning, which can include individualized accommodations in the work environment, employer education, and ongoing follow up and support.
MindSET Wellness Plan Consultation
This opportunity is intended for individuals seeking personalized
recommendations to address changes in abilities after brain injury
or stroke. The 90 minute session will explore your personal circumstances and
result in a written Wellness Plan outlining realistic and achievable action steps
to improve your functioning and quality of life. The plan will include specific
strategies for immediate implementation and may also contain
recommendations for counselling and referrals to other resources in your
community as needed.
